Every year people celebrate World Heart Day across the world on 29 September to create awareness about the deadly disease. If heart-related diseases are not diagnosed at an early stage, they can be life-threatening. Back in the year 2000, the World Heart Federation introduced World Heart Day as an annual event. Since then, various measures have been taken around the world to remind people to take care of their hearts. By being aware of the disease, people can always stay ahead. As the saying goes – precaution is better than cure, we have compiled a list of precautionary measures that a person can take to protect himself from diseases.

Here are 5 ways you can adopt to prevent heart-related diseases:

If you are overweight or obese, it can increase your risk of experiencing heart disease. Being overweight or obese is linked to other heart disease risk factors, such as high blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and diabetes. Keeping your weight under control can reduce the risk.

Limit alcohol and avoid smoking

Drinking too much alcohol not only raises your blood pressure but also adds extra calories. Drinking and smoking can increase the risk of heart disease. Cigarette smoking increases a person’s blood pressure and increases their risk of heart attack and stroke.

Stress can be the root cause of various problems, one of which is cardiovascular diseases. Managing stress much needed, and especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Stress raises blood pressure and excessive stress can also be a “trigger” for a heart attack.
