World Cup: David Warner Equals Virat Kohli With Fourth Consecutive ODI Ton Against Pakistan

Continuing his brilliant run against Pakistan in 50-over cricket, star Australian opener David Warner on Friday played a brilliant knock of 163 off 124 during his team’s ODI World Cup 2023 match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

It was Warner’s fourth consecutive ODI hundreds — 130 off 119 in Sydney (2017), 179 off 128 in Adelaide (2017), 107 off 111 in Taunton (CWC 2019) and 163 off 124 in Bengaluru ( October 20, 2023) against Pakistan.

With this 36-year-old Warner became only the second batter after India’s Virat Kohli in the history of ODI cricket to score four successive hundreds against an opposition in the 50-over format of the game.

Former India captain Kohli achieved the feat against the West Indies in 2017-18, registering four successive ODI hundreds against them.

Record-breaking opening stand for Warner and Mitchell Marsh

The duo of Mitchell Marsh and Warner gave Australia a blazing start and stitched a 259-run opening partnership. This is Australia’s highest-ever opening stand in the ODI World Cup and the pair of Marsh and Warner surpassed Brad Haddin and Shane Watson’s 183-run opening stand in the 2011 World Cup in Bengaluru.

It was also the highest partnership against Pakistan in the ODI World Cup as Warner and Marsh have surpassed Desmond Haynes and Brian Lara’s 175-run stand from 1992.

Warner Equals Gibbs and Taylor

With his fantastic knock, Warner has reached 21 ODI centuries and equalled South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs and New Zealand’s Ross Taylor.

Overall, it was his fifth century for the southpaw in ODI World Cup history. He has now become the joint-top centurion for Australia in World Cups, equaling Ricky Ponting. Warner is now just behind Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma.
