The theme of World Brain Tumor Day 2022 is “Together we are stronger”.
World Brain Tumor Day is observed every year on 8 June as a day dedicated to creating awareness about brain tumours. Brain tumors occur in brain cells that multiply abnormally and uncontrollably. They can be cancerous or noncancerous depending on their location and grading. The grading is given based on the speed at which cells multiply and spread to adjacent areas.
According to the International Association of Cancer Registries (IARC), more than 28,000 cases of brain tumors are reported in India every year. Of these, 24,000 people die due to this deadly disease.
World Brain Tumor Day: History
World Brain Tumor Day was first observed on 8 June 2000 by the German Brain Tumor Association (Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe EV), a non-profit organization to serve and support brain tumor patients. The day came into existence with the idea of paying tribute to brain tumor patients and their families by educating people about the disease.

World Brain Tumor Day: Significance
World Brain Tumor Day is observed with the aim of creating general awareness about the danger of brain tumours. The idea is to create an inclusive setup with politicians, businessmen and medical and research institutions to fund and develop research work to find effective treatments for brain tumours.
The day also focuses on highlighting the common symptoms of brain tumors that may allow early diagnosis of the disease. People are made aware of important facts about brain tumor through various campaigns, events and discussions on this topic. Some awareness campaigns also raise funds to help patients who are struggling to pay for brain tumor treatment.
