Dharwad : Construction of Road Over Bridge (to rob) Near Kalyan Nagar railway gate Union Minister Prahlad Joshi will perform Bhoomi Puja in Dharwad today.
The estimated cost for construction of the ROB is Rs 13.79 crore and has been sanctioned on a cost-sharing basis with the Government of Karnataka. The construction of the ROB is expected to be completed by December 2022.
Joshi had inaugurated the redevelopment works at Dharwad railway station in 2018, but no progress has been made in the construction of the ROB. The railway gate connects Kalyan Nagar, Danu Nagar, Attikola and Ramnagar to Malamaddi and Station Road and thousands of people and vehicles pass through this gate every day.
There was a long demand from the public for the construction of ROB as the frequent closure of railway gates was causing a lot of inconvenience to the people going towards Kalyan Nagar.
In 2017, the Ministry of Railways had announced to allocate funds for the construction of over bridges/underpasses in the budget allocation. Kalyan Nagar Railway gate with the condition that the local body or the state government will have to contribute 50% of the cost.
In June 2018, Dharwad railway station was selected for another round of development. It was one of 68 stations in the country selected for renovation. However, the Congress-JD(S) coalition government remained indifferent to the proposal and the state government’s share was not released.
