He urged the officer trainees to “imbibe the two core principles of Sardar Patel – service and duty”. The PM also recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s mantra that “every decision should be evaluated on the basis of its perceived impact on the last person in the last row”.
He asked the officials to identify 5-6 challenges faced by the district and work towards solving them. “You have to work not for the numbers but for the lives of the people. The authorities should always go for the root cause of the problems and the logic of the rules so that a permanent solution can be found.” He said that the files do not only contain figures and figures but they contain the lives and aspirations of the people. “You have to join the realm for the real experience. The figures contained in the files are not just numbers. Every digit, every number, is a life. You have to work for each life, not just the numbers.”
