Women’s World Cup 2022: Mignon du Preez pulls off a stunner to dismiss Australian opener Rachel Haynes – watch

The women of Australia and the women of South Africa locked horns in a battle of equals at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 in Wellington on Tuesday. Both teams are yet to lose the tournament, while whoever wins the game will top the points table with the most wins.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Mignon du Preez stunned the visitors with a brilliant catch to dismiss Australia opener Rachel Haynes. The incident happened in the 11th over of Australia’s target of 272 runs.

Chloe Tryon throws a half-tracker and Haynes pulls it off with perfect timing. It ran towards the boundary for four but Du Preez’s efforts spoiled the party for the Aussies. She ran to her left and dived full length to take the stunner at mid-wicket.

Earlier, South Africa women posted 271 for 5 after some brilliant contributions by opener Laura Wolvaardt, who smashed 90 off 134 balls, and skipper Sun Luce (52). Megan Schutt, Ashley Gardner, Annabel Sutherland and Alana Kings took one wicket each for Australia.

On Monday morning, Australia Women won the toss and elected to field.

“We will have a bowl. Captain Meg Lanning said.

“We’ll have a bowl. It’s a new wicket and we think that’s how it will play out. A change. We don’t think Annabel’s arrival weakens us, because we need to manage Darcy.
