A Rosh Haiyin woman nearly fell from her chair while reading her most recent electricity bill, which charged NIS 2,947,671.97 ($91,2419.61) for the past two months of service.
“My husband almost had a heart attack!” Yafit told Channel 12 on Wednesday.
But upon realizing that such a large number was the result of an error by the Israel Electric Corporation, Yafit was able to laugh off the initial fear.
“We joked that we forgot to turn off the hot water heater,” she said.
Yafit shared a photo of Bill on a popular Facebook group for Israeli women with the caption, “And this is my friends leaving the air conditioner on all summer long at my cottage in Rosh Hayin.” The post went viral, garnering thousands of likes and reactions.
As a result, a representative from Israel Electric Corporation reached out to Yafit, “The clerk thought I was messing with him.”
Realizing that the number on the bill was actually about three million shekels, the customer service representative rectified the mistake in the IEC system and sent a new bill to the family.

An IEC statement said the astronomical bill was the result of “human error”.
Electricity prices in Israel are cheaper than in Europe, the statement said.
