Kanpur: A lady police constable posted in Unnao superintendent of police’s (SP) office allegedly attempted suicide by consuming pesticide at her official accomodation in the Reserve Police Line in Unnao on Thursday.
The constable was found lying unconscious in her room and was rushed to the district hospital. She is yet to regain consciousness. The constable identified as Ranjana, is a resident of Jamura in Sikandra area of Kanpur Dehat district.
Preliminary investigation revealed that she was married to one Mithlesh Chandra in Varhan area of Agra on November 18, 2021. Her in-laws have been harassing her since then. They used to threaten and abuse her on the phone every day. On Wednesday night she got upset and consumed pesticide.
SP Dinesh Tripathi said that the matter will be investigated. “We will inquire of the constable once she regains consciousness,” he added. tnn
