AGRA: A 32-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband and in-laws in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district, after she failed to fulfill the dowry demands, said police.
The incident took place on Friday in village Nihalpur under Makkhanpur police station, officials said. Later in the evening on the same day, the victim’s body was found burning in a field outside the village.
Vineeta Devi, resident of village Harichandrapur under Tundla police station, got married to Avinash Kumar (36) in 2013. Later, a dispute over dowry was raised in the family, police said. They also have a six-year-old son.
Vineeta’s father Rajesh Kumar said, “We have fulfilled all the demands of my daughter’s in-laws. I had spent over Rs 10 lakh in her marriage. However, soon after the marriage, Avinash and his family members started pressuring my daughter for dowry. He used to often beat her over demand for a car. I had asked my daughter to get a divorce, but she refused considering the future of her six-year-old son. Avinash called and informed me about my daughter’s murder over the phone. I need justice for my daughter.”
Makkhanpur station house officer Mahesh Kumar said an FIR has been registered against the victim’s husband and five of his family members based on the complaint of the victim’s father.
He added, “An FIR has been registered against the victim’s husband and five of his family members. The victim’s family has alleged that she was beaten by her husband in the past too. It looks like the murder was not pre-planned as the entire family is absconding. We are working on crucial leads. All the accused will be arrested soon.”
Meanwhile, police have sent the victim’s charred body for post-mortem and officials said a search is on for the absconding accused. TNN
