‘With health and well being’, England to decide on Ashes tour this week

England and Wales Cricket The Board (ECB) will decide this week whether the proposed arrangement in Australia is sufficient to go ahead with the Ashes tour.

England captain Joe Root and other players have expressed doubts about the tour due to “bubble fatigue” and expressed concern that their families will not be able to travel with them due to Australia’s strict COVID-19 protocols.

Australia has limits on international arrivals and a 14-day hotel quarantine is mandatory even for full vaccinations.

The ECB said it is in talks with its players and management, while the board is also in constant touch with Cricket Australia.

“Along with health and wellbeing, our focus is to ensure that this tour proceeds with the conditions for the players and management to perform at their best,” the ECB said in a statement.

“The ECB board will meet later this week to decide whether the place conditions are sufficient for the Tour to go ahead and to enable the selection of a team for a series of this importance.”

Cricket Australia is in talks with officials and the Board of England on travel status and whether players’ families can travel during the Christmas and New Year period.

The five-Test Ashes series is scheduled to begin in Brisbane from December 8.
