Wipro’s Q1 employees highest in a decade – Times of India

Bengaluru: Wipro 12,178 employees were added in the June quarter, which is 80% of the additions in the previous fiscal and the highest in the last decade. Wipro’s headcount crossed 2 lakh in the quarter. Voluntary exodus rose 340 basis points sequentially to 15.5%.
“The dramatic shift to a remote work environment has made labor more mobile, and freer, in all sectors and markets. Hence, high attrition has become a universal issue. Wipro accepts this and is rapidly adopting,” said Wipro CEO Thierry Delaporte.
Wipro Chairman and CHRO Saurabh Govil The company said the company is ensuring that supply chain bottlenecks and job losses do not come in the way of growth. “We plan to hire over 6,000 people in the September quarter. We have announced a hike in salaries of 80% of our employees from 1st September, which is the second hike in the calendar year after January.
There have been two rounds of the promotion cycle and the third is due in December. Govil said 10,000 promotions were given during the June quarter compared to 7,300 in the year-ago period. “We will be hiring 12,000 freshers this year and will offer 30,000 campuses in the next financial year. Next year around 22,000 people will join.
Govil also said that the company is giving skill-based bonus to the employees and about 10,000 of them got it in the June quarter. “It’s 10%-20% of their salary.”
He said that most of the attrition is in the experience level of 2-5 years. He said there is some inflationary pressure in the cost of people as re-hiring and replenishing talent is going to come at a higher cost. “The attrition level will be higher for some quarters,” he said.
