If sources are to be believed, the winter session of Parliament is likely to end on December 23, a week before the scheduled time. The decision to prematurely end the winter session of the Parliament was taken in the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the Lok Sabha.

The winter session began on 7 December and was originally scheduled to end on 29 December. Several opposition leaders urged the government and Birla to end the session early, citing Christmas and New Year celebrations.

During the winter session, till Tuesday, over 50 private member bills, including those seeking to bring back the old system of voting through ballot paper instead of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), were introduced in the Lok Sabha. A controversial private member’s bill seeking to provide for a panel to prepare a Uniform Civil Code was also introduced in the Rajya Sabha.

Besides these, the government had planned to introduce 16 bills during the 17 sittings in the session.
