22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal reached his 8th Wimbledon quarter-finals and defeated Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands in straight sets (6-4, 6-2, 7) for the first time since reaching the semi-finals in 2019. -6 (6)) in a men’s singles fourth-round match on Monday, July 4.

Rafael Nadal’s dreams of winning a Calendar Slam are alive as he faces 11th seed Taylor Fritz of USA in the quarterfinals this weekend. Nadal won the Australian Open in January and overtook Novak Djokovic at the French Open, bringing his Grand Slam to 22, two ahead of the Serb and Roger Federer, who are tied 20-20.

Everything went smoothly for Nadal against Bottic van de Zandschulp until the final moments of the third set. Trying for a 5-3 win in the third set, Nadal broke for the second time in the match.

Wimbledon, Day 8 Highlights

Van de Zandschulp fought hard in the third set as he forced a tie-breaker. However, Nadal took a 6–3 lead and had 3 match points, all of which were saved by the Dutchman.

It was the end of the Dutchman’s resistance, however, as Nadal converted his fourth match point for a 6–4, 6–2, 7–6 (6) victory on center court.

Nadal, who won Wimbledon in 2008 and 2010, would like to go far, although defending champion and top seed Djokovic remains a major threat. A third title at a grass-court Grand Slam, his least successful major, would help him move one step closer to completing the calendar slam.
