Will the book fair be held at all in the event of Kovid? Government may take a decision this week

All schools, colleges and educational institutions are currently closed due to the increasing outbreak of Kovid. Along with this, many areas of the state have been identified as Containment Zone and Micro Containment Zone to deal with Corona. Still, it is not possible to stop the rising corona.

Meanwhile, 4 state corporations are going to vote. Lakhs of devotees have gathered with him in the Gangasagar fair. In such a situation, it is not possible to say with certainty whether the Calcutta Book Fair will be held on the predetermined day 31 January or not. However, according to guild sources, the state government will hold a meeting this week. It will be decided whether the book fair will be held on the scheduled day or may be postponed.

“The state government may decide this week whether the book fair will be held on the scheduled day,” said Tridib Kumar Chattopadhyay, general secretary of the Publishers and Booksellers Guild. However, in the case of the book fair, the officials of the guild said that the rules will be strictly followed. He says it is not possible to reduce the number of stalls to please small or big publishers. However, the size of the stall will be reduced to prevent the spread of Kovid infection. It is learned that this time the size of the stall will be reduced from 50 to 1050 square feet.

Although the officials of the Guild are not yet sure about the book fair, but if the government gives permission, it will be possible to organize a book fair. So they want to keep some of the book fair works in advance. Tridibabu said that since the distribution of the stalls, they have been trying to follow the COVID rules. Guild president Sudhanshu Shekhar Dey said that in that case, it would take more than two days to distribute the stalls. This, he said, is because it will take longer to avoid congestion during the stall distribution phase. Although it is not yet decided whether the book fair will be held or not, but the officials of the guild are trying to postpone the stall distribution for the time being.

However, even though a book fair is held in the event of Corona, the officials of the Guild are estimating that this time the crowd of foreign guests will not be much. Because in such a situation, after coming to this country, according to the rules, they have to stay in quarantine for 15 days.

On the other hand, since this year’s theme is in Bangladesh. Therefore, the officers of the Guild are constantly in touch with that country. However, if the book fair is allowed earlier this week, it is possible to prepare the ground for the book fair, Tridibabu said.
