‘Will talk to BJP leadership in Delhi about alliance’, says Capt Amarinder Singh after meeting Haryana CM Khattar

Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Monday met Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar at his official residence. The meeting is taking place on a day when a bill to repeal three controversial agriculture laws, against which farmers have been protesting for over a year, was passed by the Lok Sabha.

Singh, who resigned as chief minister in September amid a bitter power struggle with Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, said no political issue was discussed in the meeting.

Confirming speculation of joining hands with the BJP for next year’s Punjab Assembly polls, Singh said, “When I go to Delhi, I will definitely talk to the top BJP leadership about the alliance.” Singh, who has openly criticized the Congress after resigning from the CM’s chair on November 24, said he would campaign for the BJP in the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand elections.

After his unofficial exit from the Punjab Congress, Singh renamed his political party Punjab Lok Congress. After meeting Khattar, Singh said, “We (along with our allies) will form the government (in Punjab).”

On withdrawing the agriculture law in the winter session on Monday, Singh said that the central government has also agreed on six-seven issues of farmers, now nothing is left. “I am in touch with some people, I think a decision will be taken today or on December 4,” he said.

Singh said that though he has not had any discussion with farmer leaders regarding the agitation, but he has received information from some leaders who are in touch with him.
