Nilesh Cabral said that over 8,500 suggestions have been received from people on CZMP and officials have scrutinized the applications and are working on it.

Panaji: Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral on Tuesday said the state government will seek more time from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to finalize the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) for the state. The NGT has given time till August 31 to finalize the plan.
Cabral said more than 8,500 suggestions have been received from people on the CZMP and officials have scrutinized the applications and are working on it.
“August 31 is the last date for submission of CZMP, but we will seek more time to finalize the plan,” Cabral said. He said that the state faced a lot of difficulties in finalizing the plan. He also said that the state government wants to make it people’s plan and people’s plan means that all the suggestions given by the people have to be included. “People are helping us with planning. This plan is not made in the air,” he said.
Cabral said ground reality check teams were finding it difficult to visit locations because of the rain, but he has called a review meeting next week to review progress.
He also said that the authorities will strictly enforce the ban on the sale of Plaster of Paris (POP) Ganesh idols in the state and action will be taken against those who buy POP idols during Ganesh Chaturthi. “People will be fined for buying POP Ganesh idols or, if need be, jailed,” Cabral said. He said that 98% of street lights would be operational before Chaturthi.
The minister also said that many new transformers are being installed across the state to provide uninterrupted power to the people, on which he has also mentioned the focus of the Chief Minister. On the mining issue, Cabral said the chief minister is “focused and serious” on resuming mining activities in the state.
