The official claimed on Tuesday that Banerjee had called up Shah after the Election Commission revoked TMC’s national party status and requested him to revoke the decision.

Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee Said on Wednesday that she will resign if it is proved that she called Union Home Minister Amit Shah after the Trinamool Congress lost its national party status.

Talking to reporters at the state secretariat of West Bengal, Banerjee said that the name of her party would remain All India Trinamool Congress.

Rejecting Bengal Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari’s claim that she had made the call, she said, “If it is proved that I have given TMC national party status to Amit Shah, I will resign. “

The official claimed on Tuesday that after the Election Commission revoked TMC’s national party status, Banerjee called Shah to request him to revoke the decision.

Banerjee, who is also the TMC supremo, said, “It was ideal to review the status of the national party of all parties after 10 years. This would mean that the next review should have happened in 2026…but they did it in 2019. The name of my party will be ‘All India Trinamool Congress’. If BJP has any problem, they can approach the Election Commission and we will approach the common people.

The ECI last week withdrew the national party status of TMC, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Communist Party of India (CPI).

Reacting to the officer’s statement, TMC on Tuesday said that there is not an iota of truth in it.

“Suvendu Adhikari is a habitual liar. We have seen how he has openly lied about many political developments in the past as well. Party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh had said that having or not having the status of a national party is imaginary, it does not affect the development of TMC.

Targeting the BJP, Banerjee claimed that it would not be able to win more than 200 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The Chief Minister said that the state administration would look into the complaint lodged by Subhranshu, son of veteran politician Mukul Roy, about his father’s disappearance.

Roy, whose family says he suffers from dementia and Parkinson’s disease, made a dramatic appearance in Delhi after a missing complaint was filed, claiming he was a “BJP MP and MLA” and wanted to meet Amit Shah Are.

Banerjee said, “Mukul Roy is a BJP MLA, it is his case that he wants to go to Delhi.”

Roy had won the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections on a BJP ticket after parting ways with the TMC, but later went back to the party complaining of ill-treatment at the hands of the saffron party’s leadership.
