Will Rahul Dravid consider taking over as full-time India head coach? he answers

Batsman Rahul Dravid, who is in charge of the Indian team for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka, says he is yet to think of taking up a job of coaching the national team on a full-time basis.

The former India captain, however, said that he has “enjoyed the experience” of coaching the team in Sri Lanka.

“I’ve enjoyed the experience. You know, look, I haven’t really thought of anything ahead,” Dravid said at the virtual post-match press conference after the third and final T20 International on Thursday night.

He was asked to share his experience and if he wants to do coaching job then an opportunity should arise in future.

“You know, to be honest with you I am happy to do what I am doing. For me, I have given no other thought than to complete this tour and this tour,” said the great batsman.

India lost the third T20I by seven wickets and with it the series.

Dravid, who is the director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), has successfully coached the India Under-19 team and the India A team.

But the Sri Lankan tour was Dravid’s first assignment as the head coach of India’s senior team.

Under his leadership, the Shikhar Dhawan-led side won the ODI series 2-1 at the R Premadasa Stadium here, but lost the T20 rubber 1-2.

During an illustrious career, the 48-year-old Dravid has played 164 Tests and 344 ODIs.

“I’ve enjoyed the experience and I’ve loved working with these people. It’s been great. And no, I haven’t given any more thought to anything else. (a) There are a lot of challenges in playing a full-time role , so I really don’t know,” quipped Dravid.

India’s head coach Ravi Shastri is currently with the Indian Test team, which lost the final of the World Test Championship against New Zealand, and will next take on England in a five-match series.

Shastri’s contract runs until the end of the T20 World Cup, which is to be played in the United Arab Emirates and Oman from October 17 to November 14, and it is unclear whether he will want to reapply given that he is 59 years old. And the age limit for Upper Indian Coach Jobs is 60 years.
