For the first time in the history, the result of J&K Administrative Services Examination was declared within three hours of interview of the last candidate

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said that the recruitment process in the union territory was fair and he would quit if anyone proved otherwise.

For the first time in the history, the result of the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service Examination was declared within three hours of the interview of the last candidate.

His remarks come amid criticism of the government’s decision to appoint Aptech, an earlier blacklisted agency, to conduct the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board recruitment exam.

Questions have arisen over selection. For the first time after independence… when the last candidate was interviewed in the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Services Examination, the results were declared within three hours.

“If someone alleges that a fake recruitment has been done, I will leave Jammu and Kashmir the very next minute,” Sinha said here.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion of the inauguration of Tulip Garden here, Sinha said that wherever complaints have been received, probe has been ordered by the country’s premier investigating agency, the CBI.

Many people have been arrested and I want to assure people that no one will be spared, no matter how powerful they are. They will be punished severely as per the law and constitution of the country.”

Referring to the dismissal of several government employees and criticism by politicians, Sinha said 47 people were sacked for their alleged involvement in terrorism and anti-national activities.

He said, “The people who recruited 1.5 lakh people through the back door have no moral right to question. Let them introspect,” he said, adding that his administration would not take any wrong decision under anyone’s pressure.

He said that some people, who have acquired huge wealth by indulging in corruption, are opposing the imposition of wealth tax in the Union Territory.

“The tax money, which belongs to the people, will be used for the benefit of the people. It will not be deposited in the consolidated fund of the union territory but in the accounts of the local bodies.

But some people create ruckus. Someone said that there will be tax in the villages also. Some of them have held responsible positions. How can municipal tax be imposed in villages?” He asked.

Sinha also said that no tax would be imposed on religious places.

But some people have a habit of talking nonsense, these people have accumulated immense wealth by indulging in corruption for four-five generations. Those opposing it (municipal tax) are the ones who pay Rs 5 lakh every month for their properties in Delhi and Mumbai. People of Jammu and Kashmir do not oppose it,” said Sinha.

Of the 5.20 lakh houses, 2.06 lakh have an area of less than 1,000 sq ft. He said that no tax has been imposed on such families.

This means that 40 per cent of the population will not have to pay tax.

The second category is 1,000-1,500 sq ft for which an annual tax of only Rs 1,000 will be levied, and that too in certain areas of Srinagar and Jammu cities. In the rest of the districts, it will be a maximum of Rs 700.

There are 1.01 lakh commercial properties in Jammu and Kashmir. Of this, only Rs 46,000 will be taxed subject to a maximum of Rs 700 annually. 20,000 properties in Srinagar and Jammu cities will attract a tax of Rs 2,000 annually. Taxes would be lower in other districts, Sinha concluded.
