Gangopadhyay’s remarks came after the Supreme Court on Friday asked the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court to transfer Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee’s case from the court of Justice Gangopadhyay and assign it to another judge. The apex court gave the direction based on an analysis of the transcript of an interview given by Gangopadhyay to a Bengali news channel in September last year.

Justice Gangopadhyay, while acknowledging that at present only two cases related to the recruitment scam have been transferred from this bench, expressed apprehension that the remaining cases may also be transferred from his bench on similar grounds.

“Everyone has their own style of working. My style is different from others. If a process is completed in six months in my jurisdiction, it may take seven years to complete in future. He also said that it is the duty of every person to follow the directions of the Supreme Court.

SC Transfer Recruitment Scam Case

Earlier during the day, the apex court asked the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court to refer the recruitment scam in government schools in West Bengal to some other judge instead of Justice Gangopadhyay, who had so far heard the case. The bench said: “Judges have no right to give interviews to television or any channel on matters which are pending with them…how can they give interviews.”
