Will not contest from Chamundeshwari seat in the next assembly elections: Siddaramaiah

Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah is reluctant to contest the 2023 assembly elections in the state from Chamundeshwari assembly constituency in Mysuru district, where he lost in 2018. As the current Chief Minister in 2018, he decided to contest from Chamundeshwari and vacated his election. Son Dr. Yatindra Siddaramaiah reserved the seat of Varuna in Mysore district.

While his son emerged victorious, senior Siddaramaiah lost the Chamundeshwari seat to JD(S) leader GT Deve Gowda by a margin of nearly 34,000 votes. People are calling me to contest from four to five places. I have not decided yet, Siddaramaiah told reporters here.

When asked whether he would try his luck from Chamundeshwari seat in 2023, the Congress leader said, “I will not contest from there.” Asked about the possibility of pre-scheduled elections after the recent BJP’s victory in four out of five assembly elections, Siddaramaiah said he did not think it would happen.

He said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa and other leaders have also denied this. Terming such questions as speculation, he said there was no reason to hold early elections when elections were held in April 2023. However, Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah said: If elections are held early, we are ready to face. People are on our side.

Asked about rumors that several Congress leaders are ready to switch sides, the CLP leader asked people to wait and watch to see many BJP leaders joining the Congress. Siddaramaiah also claimed that Janata Dal (Secular) MLA GT Deve Gowda has demanded ticket from him for himself and his son. I have told him that I have not spoken to the party high command yet, the CLP leader said.

On the possibility of an alliance of BJP and JD(S), the former chief minister said: “We don’t care if they form an alliance, come to an understanding or even go for match-fixing. Regarding allegations by former Union minister CM Ibrahim, who resigned from Congress and is expected to join JD(S), Siddaramaiah said there was no need to give importance to the allegations leveled by the person who quit the party. .

“Ibrahim was given ticket in 2013 to contest the assembly elections from Bhadravati assembly constituency by not giving ticket to a sitting MLA Sangmesh, but he lost. I made him a defeated candidate, the chairman of the planning board. Also, I made him MLC. What injustice has been done to him on the part of Congress?” Siddaramaiah retorted. These things happen when a person becomes over-ambitious, he said. The former chief minister also said that after Ibrahim’s departure, there is no one on the party. will not have an effect.

Siddaramaiah said Ibrahim wanted to become the leader of the opposition in the (legislative) council but the party gave the responsibility to BK Hari Prasad.
