Will have to bow before China if dependence increases: RSS chief

Mumbai: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) supremo Mohan Bhagwat said on Sunday that India will have to bow before China if its dependence on Beijing increases.

“No matter how much we as a society shout about China and boycott Chinese goods, but where does whatever you have in your mobile come from? If dependence on China increases, (we) will have to bow down to China,” Bhagwat said.

“We use the internet and technology a lot. We do not have native technology in our country. It comes from outside,” he said.

“Swadeshi” means doing business on India’s terms, the RSS chief said, adding that “economic security is important” and that adaptation to technology “should be based on our terms”.

“We have to become ‘self-reliant’,” he said.

“Swadeshi doesn’t mean ignoring everything else. International trade will remain, but on our terms,” PTI quoted Bhagwat as saying after hoisting the national flag at a school here on the 75th Independence Day.

“We have to be self-sufficient for that… What we can make at home should not be brought from the market,” he said.

Bhagwat said that the economic vision should be to produce more and there should be additional competition for the best quality of production.

“We are not against international trade and commerce but our production should be in villages. It should not be mass production but production by the masses,” he said.

The RSS chief said that decentralized production would help the Indian economy generate employment and self-employment opportunities.

Emphasizing on equitably distributing the revenue generated, Bhagwat said that with more producers, more people would be self-reliant.

The RSS chief had also issued a warning for the government.

Bhagwat said that industries should get encouragement from the government, which should act as a regulator and not do business on its own.

Bhagwat said, “The government will appeal to the industries to manufacture things important for the development of the country and formulate policies to encourage industries.”

“We do not believe in complete nationalization but it is also not true that the nation has nothing to do with industries. All these should work together as a family unit,” he said.

Advising small industries to complement large industries, the RSS chief said that the focus should be people-centric and not profit-centric.

“Treatment of the economic unit as a family will help the economy to generate employment,” he said.
