Mumbai: When British Billionaires Richard Branson As Virgin Galactic’s Unity 22 mission flew to the edge of space with India-born Sirisha Bandala and four other crew members on Sunday, it was a space adventure even for Mumbaikars in a unique way.
Branson visited the city in December 2019 and many Mumbaikars will remember him saying that he will always cherish the memories of the city and its people. He had come to explore the possibility of starting a hyperloop project between Mumbai and Pune. However, the project could not proceed due to various reasons.
after the meeting Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddav Thackery, Branson Tweeted: “I have always been deeply inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit of the Indian people.”
Branson also met businessman Anand Mahindra during his visit to Mumbai.
Branson wrote on Instagram: “It’s great to be in India to celebrate Virgin Galactic’s new route to Mumbai and join Anand Mahindra for the ‘Our Business is an Adventure’ event. We met my great-grandfather’s wife, Joe An Indian virgin family, unveiled its latest flying icon named Aria.
In addition to the business and the Hyperloop project, Branson was also in Mumbai, which he called “lucky for the third time”. This was in connection with the third entry into Mumbai via the Mumbai-London sector of Branson’s airline Virgin Atlantic. Virgin Atlantic started flights to Mumbai and then stopped. Later, it restarted its service but stopped again. When Branson was in Mumbai in December 2019, this was his third attempt to restart Virgin’s operations.
Regarding her India connection, she said that her great-grandmother was an Indian from Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu.
He tweeted: “Four generations of us were living in Cuddalore since 1793. Whenever I meet an Indian, I am proud to say that we can relate. A few years back, I traced my roots and was thrilled to learn that I am truly Indian. I love knowing how some of my ancestors migrated to India in search of fortune from my father’s side and started their own successful business.
