Wild animal attacked two men near Tiruppur. Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: While harvesting maize in a village near Avinashi, two people were attacked by an animal, which is being told as a leopard. Tiruppur Monday morning in the district of Tamil Nadu
Police said Varadarajan,63, of pappankulam The 66-year-old was harvesting crops with the farmhand, identified as Maran, when the animal attacked him. Maran has sustained injuries on his face and neck. Varadarajan has suffered a shoulder injury.
Some villagers reached the spot and helped both of them to get treatment. He also informed the Sevur police, who in turn alerted jungle Department.
Forest team under the leadership of SN Tejashwi, Deputy Director of Forest Department Anamalai Tiger Reserve ,udumalpet Division) reached the spot. Forest officials said they could not confirm the animal that attacked the two as they could not find any evidence like pugmarks. He said that apart from the two men, no one else had seen the animal.
“We have installed 12 camera traps at the locations mentioned by the farmers. We have also used drone cameras to survey the entire maize crop and its surrounding areas. We have brought a cage here, but it will be kept only after confirming the presence of the animal.”
He said that there was no incident of sighting of leopard in the area. There is no forest cover around. It is located at least 30 km away from Bhavani Sagar.
