WI vs SA, T20 World Cup: Markram, Dusan star as South Africa beat West Indies by 8 wickets

New Delhi: South Africa registered their first win of the tournament by defeating West Indies by 8 wickets at the Dubai International Stadium in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup match. Batting first, West Indies had given a target of 144 runs to South Africa, which South Africa achieved by losing 2 wickets in 18.2 overs.

Aidan Markram played a key role in helping South Africa win over the Windies by playing an unbeaten 51. This is West Indies’ second defeat in this year’s World Cup and now the defending champions’ journey in the tournament has become very difficult. In the previous match, West Indies were defeated by heavyweight England. In this match also West Indies players performed disappointingly.

West Indies got off to a good start after losing the toss and getting the invitation to bat. The openers scored 43 runs in the powerplay without losing a wicket. During this, Evin Lewis scored 56 runs with the help of three fours and six sixes. After this Lewis was dismissed by Keshav Maharaj. West Indies batsmen fell like a deck of cards after Lewis’s dismissal.

Dwayne Pretorius took three wickets for South Africa. Keshav Maharaj then took two wickets. Kagiso Rabada and Enrique Nortz got a wicket each.

Chasing the target, South Africa’s team had a poor start and captain Temba Bavuma was run out in the very first over. After this, Reeza Hendrix, who came to bat, scored 39 runs in 30 balls with the help of four fours and a six. Then he returned to the pavilion after getting out on the brilliant ball of Aqeel Hussain.

Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram batted brilliantly to lead their team to a thumping victory. Markram scored 51 runs with the help of 2 fours and 4 sixes. Dusan scored 43 runs with the help of three fours.
