WI vs IND 2022: Virat Kohli Wants Rest, Ravichandran Ashwin Likely For T20Is

A senior BCCI source said on the condition of anonymity, “It was the team management’s decision to rest Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and the captain himself.

The five-match T20I series will begin in Tarouba, Trinidad on 29 July followed by a few matches in St Kitts (August 1 and 2) and conclude in Florida on August 6 and 7 respectively.

He said, ‘Though everyone else is playing for the T20 series, but Kohli himself has asked for a break. He has informed that he will be available for all series after the West Indies tour.

It is learned that senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will be recalled for the T20I series in the Caribbean and USA leg.

“Ashwin is very much in the scheme of things and he will be playing the T20 series in West Indies. Furthermore, Washington Sundar is still not fit to play and by the time he is fit, he will be playing for Lancashire in the County Championship and the Royal London Cup.

While Kohli will get the break he demands, his place in the national T20 squad for the next big international assignment (Asia Cup in Sri Lanka) will depend on his T20 form in the two matches against England, starting Thursday. ,

in the middle, India Zimbabwe is expected to play a short T20I series and just like Ireland, the second-line team has to travel to the African nation.

KL Rahul is expected to be fit ahead of the Asia Cup but will be a part of that short series if he recovers in time for the Zimbabwe tour.

“Obviously, the stars will be rested for the Zimbabwe series as it will be followed by the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, the home series against Australia and the team will then travel to Australia. World cup,” said the source.

Deepak Chahar, who is recovering from a hamstring and back injury, is expected to be fit for the Asia Cup starting August 27.
