Australian coach Justin Langer on Friday confirmed the international return of all-rounder Dan Christian ahead of the first T20I against West Indies.

“He finally let me down, ‘Christo’,” Langer said enthusiastically about the 38-year-old at a pre-match press conference. Langer played his last match for Australia in 2017 against India in Ranchi. Christian recently scored 47 runs in 31 balls in the first practice match.

“I’ve been in[head coach’s]job for three years and every time he scores some runs in any sport or competition around the world, he texts me and says ‘coach I’m ready to go, Choose me, I am the best all-rounder in Australia.

“He’s a brilliant block; he has an amazing set of hands on the field[and]he’s smart with the ball. His experience, and we’ve seen throughout the Big Bash and around the world, in fact, he clean hits the ball does as anyone.”

Langer also spoke of Christian being a lucky charm because of his globe-rotating T20 titles. Christian won the T20 Blast title in 2017 under the captaincy of Notts Outlaws and led Trinbago Knight Riders to victory in the same year. In 2018, he was a member of Jozi Stars who won the Mzansi Super League.

In 2019, Christian won the Big Bash League title for Melbourne Renegades. Last year, Christian led the Knotts Outlaws to another Blast title, followed by Sydney Sixers’ BBL victory in February this year. His most recent T20 stint was with Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL.

“It’s almost becoming an urban myth, isn’t it? Wherever he plays, we win. He’s so excited, he’s probably a little nervous tonight – excited to play for Australia again – and I just It’s nice to see, like to see that energy.”
