Why stayed away from Bollywood for many years and Chandrachur Singh on his return

Starting out in the industry with back to back hits (Tere Mere Sapne, Maachis) is not an easy step, but actor Chandrachur Singh was well on his way to becoming the next big thing. Despite being cast as a supporting actor in his later films like Josh and Kya Kehna, he made an appearance and his popularity skyrocketed, even though the films boasted actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan, respectively. However, the doe-eyed hero failed to maintain his career graph as he slowly started disappearing from the scene.

Now, Singh doesn’t want to look back to see what happened or what could have happened, as his eyes are set on the future. In a conversation with News18 ahead of the release of his OTT series Dil Bekraar, the actor says that his life and career are back on track after his long absence from showbiz. Singh made his comeback last year with the Emmy nominated series Aarya, which also marked his OTT debut. He says that staying away from the limelight for so long was a partly conscious choice.

When asked about his career journey and his long absence, he said, “Now it is back on track. We have a lot of interesting assignments to come in the future. Right now the series (Dil Bekarar) is up. So. Let’s see what we have now. Staying away from the limelight was a conscious choice partly because I wanted to do a satisfying job. And partly, there were other priorities. So that’s how I took it.”

A major reason for Singh not focusing on his work was a jet skiing accident in 2000, which took 8 years to recover. This happened right after the release of Josh Aur Kya Kehna, at a time when he was moving towards a more successful career. When asked how he coped with being out of work, he replied, “Positively, I feel like doing what had to be done at the time. There were other important priorities for me. And right now I am doing that work.” I’m focusing on what’s coming my way, which is exciting too, because now the characters can be gray, and you can shift from any genre, you don’t have to be stereotyped. Now it’s so much more Exciting because you don’t stick to one image. So there is a lot of scope to play different roles in different genres.”

So was he stereotyped in his time? Singh replied, “I think at that time everyone was generally typecast in certain kinds of roles. So that was the way then. Now, actors are more flexible in the sense that you can play any kind of character. And people identify with the character, not so much that they identify with the actor alone. The actor is very much on screen, but it’s also the character that’s more important. So you can have a negative character, a positive character. Or play a comical character, it’s the character you’re playing that’s defining you, you’re not limited to one image.”

For Dil Bekraar, which is also his second OTT feature after Emmy nominated show Aarya, he plays an antagonist. Talking about his role, he said, “My character is a prototype of a certain kind of person, whose complexion is gray like the others, but he takes it a little further. This is a complex, complex character who is charming and charismatic by nature, but at the same time, he has his own agenda. And he really believes in them because sometimes you start believing what others are saying. That’s why he belongs to him, he believes he is a patriot.”

Despite choosing OTT for his comeback, Singh hasn’t forgotten his love for the big screen and will make his comeback soon. Bollywood Too. Without revealing much about the project, he said, “I am working on a film that is mostly completed, and it should release in theaters next year. I can’t give any details other than that.” Akshay Kumar My co-star.”

Chandrachur Singh’s Dil Bekarar, co-starring Raj Babbar, Poonam Dhillon, Padmini Kolhapure, Sahher Bamba, Akshay Oberoi, Medha Shankar and Sukhmani Sadana will release on Disney+ Hotstar on 26 November.
