Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed party workers of the BJP in Delhi after registering a thumping victory in four of the five states where elections were held. During his address, PM Modi explained why India is neutral on Russia Ukraine crisis situation. Appealing for peace and continued dialogue between Russia and Ukraine to resolve the ongoing war, the PM said, “India’s relationship with the countries involved in the war – economically, security-wise, education-wise and politically Also. India’s many needs are connected. For these countries,” PM Modi said while delivering a victory speech to his party workers at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in New Delhi.

The BJP is set to return to power in Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand with a comfortable majority for an unprecedented second term.

Explaining India’s neutrality in the Russo-Ukraine war, PM Modi said that India has good relations with both the countries and appealed for peace and continued dialogue. The PM said, “The current war is affecting every country across the world. India is in favor of peace and hopes that all problems will be resolved through deliberation.”

Earlier, India and 34 other countries stayed away from the UN General Assembly resolution that condemned Russia for its military action against Ukraine. India had also avoided a procedural vote by the UN Security Council to convene a General Assembly session on the Ukraine crisis.

India along with China and the United Arab Emirates did not participate in a US-sponsored resolution against Russia’s military action in Ukraine last week. Moscow used its veto against the proposal.

He also criticized the opposition for trying to regionalize Operation Ganga to rescue stranded Indian nationals from Ukraine. PM Modi said, “These people also tried to make Operation Ganga regional. These people have given a different color of regionalism and communalism to every plan – this is a big concern for the future of India.”

The Foreign Ministry had deployed more than 50 of its Russian-speaking officers to carry out Operation Ganga in Ukraine. A special team led by a joint secretary also flew from New Delhi to take decisions at the ground level inside war-torn Ukraine. About 22,000 Indians, mainly students, have already been evacuated in Ukraine, including the most active hazardous areas such as Kharkiv and Sumy.
