The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hit out at Bhupesh Baghel after the Chhattisgarh chief minister lost his cool at a public function after a youth questioned him on the ongoing quote controversy in the state. Describing Baghel as ‘arrogant’, the BJP ‘reminded’ the chief minister that it was the people who had brought him to power.

Baghel has recently been participating in public events to get feedback on government schemes. The Chhattisgarh unit of the BJP tweeted a video of a similar event in Bemetara district, in which the chief minister can be seen fuming when a youth asks him not to give reservation on the basis of population.

The Chhattisgarh unit of the BJP asked the chief minister to “not forget” his duty of being accountable to the people, who voted him into power.

“Bhupesh Baghel ji, you are showing your eyes to the public, who voted you as the Chief Minister. You are insulting him from the stage. Don’t forget that it is your duty to answer the public’s questions and you are not doing them any favors. Remember, if Ravana’s arrogance did not last, then who are you?” the official handle of the Chhattisgarh unit of the BJP tweeted in Hindi.

Former Chief Minister and BJP leader Dr. Raman Singh also condemned Baghel’s action and said, ‘The use of indecent and unconstitutional language while sitting on the Chief Minister’s chair is condemnable. People come to you to solve their problems @BhupeshBaghel and not to listen to your scolding.”

BJP IT chief Amit Malviya also attacked Baghel for his outburst and said, “this is the voice of Congress-mukt Chhattisgarh”.

In the video, a youth named Kishan Agarwal asked Baghel why “people from the general category, who are literate and controlled the population, are being punished.”

The youth can be heard saying that he wanted a chance to speak for a few minutes. He said, “We always listen to you, today I want to speak for 3-4 minutes.”

On this, Baghel accused the young man of making false allegations and said, “You are prejudiced. I give everyone a chance to speak. You are making false allegations.”

He did not stop here and asked the young man if his parents ever got a chance to ask questions to any chief minister. “If you had this chance, would you charge me?” To which the boy replied, “Sir I can accuse you, anyone can. You do too.”
