Why is Antyodaya Day celebrated on the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay?

Antyodaya Diwas is celebrated every year on 25 September. The day was given national importance when in 2014 Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated it in honor of the late Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay on his birth anniversary. He was a veteran politician, one of the prominent leaders of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, from which the BJP emerged. Antyodaya means the upliftment of the poorest of the poor and hence, this day is celebrated with the aim of reaching the last person of the society.
