Days after Vijay Rupani resigned as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, the BJP leader in an exclusive conversation with India TV said that he received instructions from the party high command on Friday to tender his resignation.

Acknowledging the decision taken by the party, Vijay Rupani said that he thanked PM Modi and Amit Shah for giving him a chance to serve the people of Gujarat.

The sudden resignation of Vijay Rupani as the Chief Minister of Gujarat shocked many. Speaking further on the party’s decision, Rupani said that it is like a relay race, new leaders come one after the other. First there was Keshubhai, then Narendra bhai then Anandiben came, then me and now Bhupendra bhai got a chance.

Responding whether the decision to resign as chief minister was easy for him, Vijay Rupani said that as a party worker, he has a mindset that he does not stand for any position. “I have resigned on my own pleasure. The decision to resign was very easy for me, we all workers don’t work for power, I am active since 1973-74, power is only a means of service for us. Power is all Nothing, we don’t operate with this mindset.”

Vijay Rupani’s successor Bhupendra Patel took oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat on Monday.
