Why did Vijay Rupani resign as the Chief Minister of Gujarat a year before the assembly elections? know here

Gandhinagar: In an unexpected political development, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani submitted his resignation to Governor Acharya Devvrat at the Raj Bhavan on Saturday. After submitting his resignation, Rupani told reporters that he was grateful to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership for giving him the opportunity to serve as the chief minister of the state.

Rejecting questions about his sudden resignation, Rupani said he served as chief minister for five years, which is a long time. He further said that this is normal in BJP. Rupani said that he would continue his work under the leadership of BJP’s national president and during the last five years people’s faith in the BJP remained.

Rupani was appointed the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2016 replacing Anandiben Patel. He completed 5 years of his tenure last month. However, it is not yet clear who will be the next Chief Minister of the state. Many names including Purushottam Rupala, Mansukh Mandaviya are in the news for the top post.

Why did Vijay Rupani resign??

The speculation of Vijay Rupani’s resignation was going on for a long time. A program was also organized on the completion of five years as CM of Rupani. However, sources said the state organization’s report was against Rupani. Assembly elections are due in Gujarat next year. However, the report said that victory in the elections was not possible under Rupani’s leadership. BL Santosh was sent to Gandhinagar two days ago.

After Vijay Rupani’s resignation, political analyst Pradeep Singh said that Rupani was made the Chief Minister after Anandiben Patel was removed from the post of CM. Since then it has become clear that this is a ‘stop gap’ arrangement as Rupani is not seen as a mass leader or a charismatic leader.

Singh also said that the BJP understood this at the time of the 2017 assembly elections. The Prime Minister himself had to go to the elections. After that it was clear that Vijay Rupani would not stay on the CM post for long.
