Union Minister Narayan Rane, who was recently inducted into the Prime Minister Narendra ModiThe new cabinet of Maharashtra was angered by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for claiming ignorance of the year of India’s independence. Rane was arrested hours ago for his provocative remarks and is currently lodged at Sangameshwar police station in coastal Ratnagiri district. Rane was in the area as part of the BJP’s Jan Ashirwad Yatra.
What exactly did Rane say?
According to Rane, Thackeray had allegedly forgotten the year of independence during his address to the people of the state on August 15 and had to check midway along with his colleagues. Rane’s claim is yet to be confirmed.
“It is shameful that the chief minister does not know the year of independence. He leaned back during his speech to ask about the counting of the years of independence. “If I had been there, I would have given (him) a slap,” Rane said during his Jan Ashirwad Yatra in adjoining Raigad district on Monday.
Shiv Sena furious
Rane’s remarks drew sharp reactions from the Shiv Sena, with its activists putting up several posters in Mumbai and other places, calling him a ‘kombadi chor’ (chicken theft), during his initial tenure in Chembur five decades ago. Shiv Sena workers put posters brought by him in bottles on posters outside the office and set them on fire around noon. They also pelted stones at the office.
Rane’s residence confirmed
Heavy police security was deployed outside Rane’s residence in Mumbai on Tuesday as BJP workers gathered in support of their party leader outside his residence on Juhu Tara Road in Mumbai’s Santacruz (West) in the morning.
In addition, Shiv Sena workers, including women, holding placards and raising slogans against Rane, gathered outside an office of the Yuva Sena (the party’s youth wing) located in Juhu. Hosting the FIR
Following his remarks, a complaint was lodged against Rane at the Cyber Police Station by the Nashik city Shiv Sena unit chief. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered against Rane in Nashik under sections 500 (defamation), 505 (2) (mischief), 153-B(1) (c) of the IPC. hatred or malice).
After the FIR was registered, Nashik Police Commissioner Deepak Pandey on Tuesday issued orders for the immediate arrest of Rane. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena spokesperson Ambadas Danve in Aurangabad lodged a complaint against Rane at Kranti Chowk police station. FIRs have also been registered in Pune and Mahad.
BJP-Shiv Sena in war
Angered by the arrest of a veteran leader, the BJP has launched a scathing attack on the media against the Maharashtra government, even claiming that Rane’s life is in danger. A BJP MLA in Maharashtra claimed on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena said that Rane should be given “shock treatment” as he has lost his “balance”.
Speaking to reporters at Sangameshwar in coastal Ratnagiri district, BJP Legislative Council Member (MLC) Prasad Lad alleged that the Union minister was misbehaved with the police. “Police pushed Rane while he was having food. He is about 70 years old. Should such a person be treated like this? We think his life is in danger,” Lad said.
“A doctor who did his check-up said that Rane is diabetic, but he could not check the sugar level. His blood pressure has increased. Current readings are 160/110. The doctor also said that they took his ECG and considering him to be a diabetic, his sugar should be checked and he should be admitted to the hospital,” the BJP MLA said.
Speaking in Mumbai, Shiv Sena leader and minister Gulabrao Patil said that Rane “has lost his balance. He should be taken to Thane and for him to recover,” Patil apparently referred to the government mental hospital there.
