Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde faced a floor test in the assembly on Monday and won without any hindrance. Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction has demanded the suspension of 16 party MLAs belonging to Uddhav Thackeray’s camp for violating the whip to Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar.

Bharat Gogawale, chief whip of Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde faction, gave a petition to the Speaker.

The Speaker’s Office confirmed that notices for suspension would be issued to 16 MLAs. Gogavale had also issued a whip to the party MLAs to be present in the assembly for the floor test.

However, Aaditya Thackeray will not have to face the whip. We have not named Aaditya Thackeray because of our respect for Balasaheb Thackeray.

On the other hand, Sunil Prabhu, chief whip of Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray faction, has also issued a whip in this regard. The Shiv Sena has claimed that according to the 10th Schedule of the Constitution, only the original political party or a person authorized by it has the right to issue a whip and the legislature party cannot issue a whip.

Shinde won the floor test

In the 288-member House, 164 MLAs voted for the confidence motion, while 99 voted against it. Three MLAs abstained from voting, while 21 MLAs, including Congress’s Ashok Chavan and Vijay Wadettiwar, remained absent.
