Shreyanka Patil was ruled out of the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup T20 2024 on Saturday after suffering a finger injury during India’s tournament opener against Pakistan.

Star Indian spinner Shreyanka Patil was ruled out of the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup T20 2024 on Saturday (July 20) due to an injury. The 21-year-old cricketer from Bengaluru suffered a finger injury during the India-Pakistan match on Friday, and because of that, she will now miss the remaining matches of the tournament.

In a release issued on Saturday, the Asian Cricket Council confirmed that Patil will miss the ongoing tournament in Sri Lanka due to a fracture in her finger and will be replaced by uncapped Gujarat Giants player Tanuja Kanwer.

“Shreyanka Patil of India has been ruled out of the remainder of the Women’s Asia Cup after she sustained an injury while fielding during the team’s opening game of the tournament, against Pakistan, in Dambulla, Sri Lanka,” said the ACC in a statement.

“In place of her, Tanuja Kanwer will join the team,” the release added.

A day after getting ruled out, the youngster, who finished as the leading wicket-taker in WPL 2024 and dismissed two batters for 14 runs in the match against Pakistan, took to X to post a tweet in which she assured her fans about making a strong comeback.

She shared a picture of her from the India-Pakistan Women’s Asia Cup 2024 match, in which she can be seen raising her hand to make an appeal, and captioned the post, “Q. Who is going to make a strong comeback?!!!!”

Shreyanka, who made her international debut for India last year against England in Mumbai on December 6, has played in three ODIs and 12 T20Is so far and has five and 16 wickets, respectively, to her name.

India vs UAE on Sunday

After getting the better of Pakistan by 7 wickets in the first Group A match played on Friday, the Indian women’s cricket team will face the UAE in their second match on Sunday. A win over the UAE in Dambulla will not only help India maintain the No. 1 position in the points table but also all but confirm its place in the semi-final of the ongoing eight-team tournament in Sri Lanka.
