A young Bangladeshi-origin boy is set to make history as the youngest high school graduate in Long Island, New York. Suborno ‘Isaac’ Bari, the son of immigrant parents, has skipped several grades to achieve this milestone. Aged merely 12, Bari has managed to author two books and has lectured at an Indian university.
Bari, who will receive his diploma on June 26, has been awarded a full scholarship to New York University (NYU), where he plans to study mathematics and physics. “[I want] to help people around the world understand math and science,” he was quoted as saying by the New York Post. “My goal is to be a professor and try to help those in need of a good resource.”
Who is this genius?
Bari, a Bengali-American prodigy and university professor, was born on April 9, 2012, at New York Presbyterian Queens Hospital. His parents, Rashidul and Shaheda, immigrants from Bangladesh, noticed his remarkable abilities early on. By six months, he was speaking in full sentences, and by two years old, he was solving complex mathematics, physics, and chemistry problems.
Videos showcasing his talents gained attention on social media and local TV channels, leading to interviews with prestigious institutions like Medgar Evers College and Voice of America. In 2016, Dr. Lisa Coico of City College of New York dubbed him the “Einstein of our time” for his exceptional performance in math and science tests.
At age four, Bari received recognition from former US President Barack Obama for his achievements, followed by acknowledgment from Harvard University at age six for his problem-solving skills. He was accepted into New York City’s gifted and talented program shortly thereafter.
On April 24, 2018, Dr. Thomas Isekenegbe of Bronx C. College interviewed Bari about his anti-terrorism campaign and upcoming book, “The Love.” Published on March 15, 2019, “The Love” promotes interfaith understanding and was the subject of an attack by Bengali Muslim extremists in Jackson Heights on April 28, 2019.
Bari also received the Global Child Prodigy Award from Indian Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi in January 2020. He joined Mumbai University as a Visiting Professor of Physics and presented “The Love” at SP Pune University on January 6, 2020. His achievements were featured on NBC’s “Little Big Shots” in March 2020, where Hollywood legend and Oscar-nominated Malisa McCarthy interviewed him at Warner Bros Studio.
Praised by his teachers and peers, Bari has already taught physics at Mumbai University and received recognition from Harvard University for his problem-solving skills. However, his parents describe Bari as a unique and forward-thinking boy who has always stood out among his peers.
