‘Who is Shah Rukh Khan’: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma amid Pathaan release row

Guwahati: “Who is Shahrukh Khan? I don’t know anything about him or the film Pathan”, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma gave a befitting reply to questions from reporters here on Saturday. Media persons had questioned the violent protest by Bajrang Dal activists, who on Friday stormed a theater in the city’s Narengi where the film was to be screened, tore its posters and burnt them. “Khan hasn’t called me, though many people from Bollywood do so regarding the problem. But if he does, I will look into the matter.” They said.

Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan and his film ‘Pathan’ are facing flak for featuring Deepika Padukone in a saffron bikini in the song ‘Besharam Rang’. Several leaders, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, have demanded a ban on the film.

When reporters told him that Khan was a Bollywood superstar, Sarma said that the people of the state should be worried about Assamese and not Hindi films.

He said that the Assamese film ‘Dr. Bezbarua – Part 2’ will be releasing soon. “People should see it.”

Pathan, directed by Siddharth Anand, will release on January 25.
