Prabhsimran Singh was signed by the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2022 mega auction for Rs 60 lakhs.

Punjab Kings batsman Prabhsimran Singh scored his first century in the Indian Premier League against Delhi Capitals on Friday. Prabhsimran, who hails from Punjab, entered the current season of the IPL after scoring consistently well in domestic cricket. He was the third-highest run-scorer in last year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with 320 runs in 10 matches, which included four half-centuries.

The wicket-keeper batsman made his first-class debut in 2022 against Himachal Pradesh and started his career with a century. He has scored 689 first-class runs in 11 matches so far in his career. The 22-year-old made his IPL debut in 2019 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He scored 16 off 17 balls as SRH beat PBKS by 45 runs. After failing to make a mark in the last four seasons, Prabhsimran finally made it big with a century against the Capitals on Saturday night.

The young batsman was signed by the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2022 mega auction for Rs 60 lakh.

It was a brilliant knock from Prabhasimran as Punjab Kings were in trouble after losing wickets at one end at regular intervals.

He took his time and paced his innings well. The young wicketkeeper scored 27 off his first 30 balls and settled down on a difficult surface before unleashing himself on the Capitals batsmen. He changed gears at the right time and scored 76 runs in the last 36 balls at a strike rate of 217.14.

The 22-year-old opener looked in good control as 10 of his hits reached the ropes while six hit his 65-ball 103, his second T20 century and first in the IPL. He reached the mark in the 18th over by hitting back-to-back boundaries off Khaleel Ahmed.

Mukesh Kumar ends his run with a full toss that stays in the middle which manages to deceive him.

After the Punjab Kings innings, Prabhasimran talked about his innings and shared the reason behind the celebration with folded hands.

“I thought of taking the time and pitching to convert the loose ball. As I started the season, I wanted to make it a good season. The pitch was difficult for batting but easy for set batsmen. I celebrate in the same way in domestic cricket as well. Was saying thanks to the festival management. It was easy to play fast bowlers on this wicket and the balls were in my slot. We were looking for 170 and we got close to that.
