Who can target Hindus more, says Congress, SP, BJP ahead of UP assembly elections in competition

The BJP on Tuesday alleged that its rivals Samajwadi Party and Congress are in competition over who can spew more venom against Hindus and protect those who do so. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra accused the Congress of supporting Islamic cleric Maulana Tauqir Raza Khan in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections and making communal remarks by the SP to attack several Muslims for allegedly engaging in riots and attacking these parties.

Patra said Khan had recently delivered a speech targeting Hindus and said that the Congress had in the past forged alliances with parties that enjoy Muslim support in states like Kerala, Karnataka and West Bengal and Who was accused of making communal remarks aimed at the majority community. Patra said that the SP has also given tickets to jailed MLA Nahid Hasan and people like Muharram Ali, accused of instigating the riots.

He said these incidents have exposed both sides to foster a “radical syndicate”. The BJP spokesperson also cited Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole’s remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying it showed that the breach in Modi’s security in Punjab was no coincidence but an experiment at the behest of top leaders of the opposition party.

Patole had said that he could thrash and abuse Modi but later claimed that he was not referring to the prime minister. On the question of Aam Aadmi Party declaring its MP Bhagwant Mann as its chief ministerial candidate in Punjab, the BJP spokesperson quipped.

He said that AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal described Mann as the chief ministerial face of the party like a governor and Mann also acted as if he was taking oath of office. Patra also rubbished the Congress’ allegations of politics behind the Enforcement Directorate raids at several places in poll-bound Punjab and said the law will take its own course and should not be seen through the prism of politics.

In some cases, he said, the Punjab Police had registered an FIR and even Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu had sought action against the sand mafia, which has been targeted by the ED.
