Bollywood actor Sonakshi Sinha married long-term boyfriend Zaheer Iqbal on June 23 at her residence in front of family and close friends. The couple revealed their long-hidden affection by posting wedding images on Instagram. They both also admitted it was love at first sight when they met seven years ago.
Sonakshi Sinha’s marriage to actor Zaheer Iqbal sparked intense speculation. There had been much talk about whether her father, Shatrughan Sinha, would attend her only daughter’s wedding.
However, Sonakshi’s parents, Shatrughan Sinha and Poonam Sinha, were present, debunking rumours that Shatrughan was opposed to the union. Regarding the rumours, Shatrughan Sinha said, “Her happiness is my happiness. She has the right to select her partner” as quoted by the Economic Times.
Furthermore, many old topics were discussed during her wedding. According to reports, veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha was once romantically involved with actress Reena Roy. Sinha and Reena Roy’s escapades were heavily discussed during Sonakshi’s marriage. Reportedly, they were also together for over seven years.
When Sonakshi first entered the film industry with Dabangg in 2010, she had to cope with Shatrughan Sinha and Reena Roy’s controversial pasts, and her appearance was likened to Reena Roy’s.
In an interview, which Masala.com reported, the Kalank actor remarked, “I think it happened when I was not even born. I found out when I was growing up and started understanding things. But I’m not going to crucify my father for something he did years back.”
Additionally, Sonakshi Sinha, in one of her interviews, disputed the idea of having similar looks to Reena Roy, saying, “I look like my mother, Poonam Sinha,” Koimoi quoted. In a 2023 interview, Reena Roy revealed Sonakshi Sinha’s striking similarity to her. Reena Roy commented on their startling likeness, saying, “Wahin na, yeh zindagi ke ittefaq hote hain (these are the quirks of fate). Jeetuji’s mother and my mother resemble twin sisters.”
This was the first time when the veteran actress had commented on fans making comparisons between her and Sonakshi’s appearances.
