The epic action thriller film Mohra, released in 1994, proved to be a superhit at the box office. Raveena Tandon rose to prominence as the film gained huge popularity. Raveena Tandon’s collaboration with Akshay Kumar in the film was also a huge success. Viewers liked their pairing. Not only the cast, the film’s songs like Tip Tip Barsa Pani and Main Cheez Badi Hoon Mast Mast also garnered huge appreciation and still have a special place in the hearts of the viewers. Do you know that Raveena Tandon was hesitant to say yes to Mohra? She was hesitant to say yes to the film because she had a kissing scene with Akshay Kumar in the song Tip Tip Barsa Paani. Mohra’s co-screenwriter, Shabbir Boxwala shared in an old interview about this. He said, “Raveena Tandon met Rajiv Rai (director of Mohra), and she knew that this was a good project. Raveena was confused since the song Tip Tip Barsa Paani had a kissing scene. Raveena said that her father would not like it, and then Rajiv jokingly said not to show this film to your father.”
After this, Raveena Tandon finally agreed to work in Mohra.
Another interesting fact is that before Raveena, this movie was offered to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sridevi, the top heroines of that era, but they rejected it. Shabbir Boxwala had also shared that very few people know that the first heroine of Mohra was Divya Bharti. She had shot for a few days with Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty, but then, due to her sudden death, the shooting of the film was stopped. After this, the makers again started looking for a new heroine.
Shabbir Boxwala said, “I saw Aishwarya Rai’s pictures, which I liked. Rajiv Rai (director of Mohra) asked me to talk to her, but Aishwarya refused, because at that time she was preparing for Miss World.”
Shabbir further said, later they also offered the project to Sridevi, but during that time Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty were not so famous. So Sridevi did not want to work with new actors and rejected the offer.
Mohra was a huge box office success; it became the second-highest-grossing film of 1994.
