When Lata Mangeshkar shares advice for young Bollywood playback singers: You have to bring soul to the song – Times of India

Be it ‘Lag Ja Gale’ in 1964 or ‘Luka Chuppi’ in 2006 – Veteran singer Lata mangeshkaroK’s productions have always impressed music lovers and film audiences alike. During her seven decades in the Hindi film industry, the singer lent her voice to many heroines from different generations. In a previous interview, when asked what she felt about the current music scene, she said, it lacked “soul”.

In this interview with IANS, Lata said, “I think playback singing has a lot to do with voice acting. I would suggest all the youngsters to understand the character, the situation and the story behind the songs. Only then will you become a soul.” For a presentation that I feel is missing in today’s music.”

She observed that “perhaps this is why people still like to listen to retro songs, and new songs are rapidly going out of listeners’ memory”.

“As a singer, you have to bring soul to the song,” the veteran singer advised the young talent.
