Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra creates history by winning India’s first gold Tokyo Olympics 2021. A dream that remained unfulfilled for athletes like PT Usha and Milkha Singh was realized by Neeraj Chopra in the men’s javelin throw category – he won the honor with a throw of 87.58m.
While the nation is celebrating Neeraj Chopra for winning the Olympics, an old interview of the athlete has surfaced online with The Quint. It was held after the 23-year-old athlete’s fresh victory at the 2018 Asian Games. Here, Neeraj can be seen naming Bollywood actors when a biopic on their life is made. Supporting the idea of a biopic on his life, Neeraj Chopra said actor Randeep Hooda should play the character on screen. Born and brought up in Haryana’s Panipat, the athlete said that he likes Randeep Hooda as he is also from Haryana. Neeraj also mentioned Akshay Kumar as another option for his biopic.
Bollywood is known for making biopics on athletes. In the past, it has churned out several biopics such as Paan Singh Tomar, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Soorma, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Azhar, Mary Kom, Dangal and many more. On Sunday, filmmaker Manoj Tiwari announced a biopic on track and field athlete Neelu Mishra, who battled health challenges and weight issues to win 51 national and 28 international medals.
By far, the most sought after sports drama churned out by Bollywood is ’83 – starring Ranveer Singh, who will play Kapil Dev. Deepika Padukone will play the role of Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Dev in the film. ’83 was expected to release earlier this year, but was postponed due to the second wave of COVID-19. The filmmakers are yet to share any update on the new release date.
