Interest in Blake Lively’s past interviews has resurfaced amid the ongoing controversy involving her and her It Ends With Us co-star, Justin Baldoni.
Blake Lively once had a sharp response for a reporter who asked her about her rumoured romance with her Gossip Girl co-star, Penn Badgley. In a 2008 feature with New York magazine, Lively was reportedly promoting her film The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, in which she had filmed a kissing scene with Alan Arkin. During the interview, she jokingly said, “He’s a little bit of an upgrade from Chace Crawford and Penn Badgley,” referring to her Gossip Girl co-stars. This comment led journalists Jessica Pressler and Chris Rovzar to enquire about her real-life relationship with Badgley, who portrayed her on-screen love interest, Dan Humphrey.
To this, Lively quickly shut down the question, saying, “I thought this was New York magazine. I thought you were supposed to be classy,” reported Page Six. Blake Lively and Penn Badgley dated each other between 2007 and 2010.
Interest in Lively’s past interviews has resurfaced amid the ongoing controversy involving her and her It Ends With Us co-star, Justin Baldoni. The 36-year-old actress has reportedly been accused of using the film’s press tour to promote her new alcohol line and haircare brand instead of focusing on the movie’s theme of domestic violence.
Baldoni, 40, has also been under scrutiny, with reports claiming he made a fat-shaming remark about Lively while on set. According to TMZ, Baldoni allegedly asked an on-set trainer how much Lively weighed before filming a scene where he had to lift her. The actor-director reportedly wanted to be cautious as he had previously injured his back.
Lively, who had given birth to her fourth child with husband Ryan Reynolds just a few months before production started last year, reportedly learned about Baldoni’s comment and felt “bothered” and body-shamed by it, according to the outlet’s sources. The report also mentioned that the two stars had some tension during the filming of a kissing scene, with Lively feeling that the scene went on for too long.
Neither Baldoni nor Lively has publicly addressed the situation, but the internet has already dug into Lively’s past, resurfacing the “problematic” remarks made by the Preserve founder. Over the weekend, fans reportedly called out Lively for using a transgender slur in various interviews.
In another instance, a journalist had congratulated Lively on her then-recently announced second pregnancy and her baby bump. Lively’s response, however, was unexpected as she said, “Congrats on your little bump,” informed Page Six. Reporter Kjersti Flaa later shared that the actress’ reaction made her “want to quit” her job. Flaa also disclosed that she was infertile, which made Lively’s comment particularly painful. “To be honest, it hurts because I obviously wasn’t pregnant and I could never get pregnant,” Flaa, 51, told the Daily Mail.
