This film was such a hit among the audience that it remained in theatres for close to 2 years. At the Indian box office, the film grossed Rs 7.5 crores. In Mumbai alone, the film grossed Rs 1 crore. Deewar is highly remembered for the screenplay, acting performance, direction and music as well. One of the iconic numbers of this film is Keh Du Tumhe. Kishore Kumar Asha Bhosle has provided their vocals to this song. RD Burman composed the music for this number.

This film also made a mark amongst the audience because of an intriguing fashion trend introduced by Amitabh. Very few, however, know that ideally, it was crisis management that ended up becoming a trend. The veteran had talked about it on Instagram and shared an anecdote from his Deewar days. He disclosed that his iconic knotted shirt look-in was a tailoring error. Sharing a snap from the movie, the superstar said that the shoot was ready, the camera was about to roll and suddenly he realised that the shirt was too long. There was no time to replace it, so a knot was tied on the shirt, Amitabh added.
