Veteran actress Mamta Kulkarni, a prominent figure in Bollywood during the 90s, is known for her roles in films like ‘Karan Arjun’, ‘Kabhie Tum Kabhie Hum’, and ‘Andolan’. Besides her film career, Mamta was infamous for her bold and controversial statements, often stirring the pot with her candid remarks about other actresses, including Ameesha Patel.
One such incident, which has remained a hot topic over the years, took place in Mauritius during a private, invite-only party hosted by a mutual friend. According to reports from Masala magazine, the disagreement between Mamta and Ameesha arose over a trivial issue: the quality of meat served at the event.
The ‘Krantiveer’ actress was reportedly displeased with the meat being served and got into a heated argument with the waiter. The waiter tried to explain that the meat was venison, not chicken, but Mamta was not satisfied and caused a scene. Ameesha, who witnessed the drama, allegedly made a comment about Mamta’s lack of social grace, which was overheard by Mamta’s friend.
This led Mamta to retort with a scornful remark, saying, “You are here in Mauritius to shoot for hair oil, aren’t you? Well, for your information while you get paid a measly INR One Lakh. I get INR 15 Lakh for the same. So you tell me who is a bigger star, you or me?”
Ameesha, however, chose to walk away from the situation rather than escalate it. When later asked about the incident, Ameesha dismissed it, saying, “Oh no, you are talking of an incident that happened a long time ago. She (Mamta) is dying for some publicity, that’s all. Please don’t bring it up. It’s so dumb to bring up the issue now. Mamta is uselessly getting into a controversy where there is no need to rake up the issue.”
Despite her initial reluctance, Ameesha eventually recounted the details, explaining how Mamta’s complaints about the food were disrupting the dinner party, hosted by Mr. Bajaj of Bajaj Sevashram fame. Ameesha said she had tried to calm the situation by reminding Mamta of the effort put in by the hosts, but Mamta, feeling insulted, lashed out, asserting her star status.
The Gadar 2 actress had revealed, “All of us were at a dinner party thrown by Mr. Bajaj (of the Bajaj Sevashram fame) and Mamta was complaining and harassing everybody about the food. Forget Mamta, even her secretary started abusing people there. I didn’t want them to scream so much because Mr. Bajaj was just sitting down at the table and I am sure he could hear everything that was being said. I told them, ‘Everyone is eating the same food.
Despite being in Mauritius, the hosts are trying to do their best to provide a great meal by Indian cooks they have flown over, so I don’t think you should complain. My words angered Mamta because she thought she was a big star. What followed next was Mamta trying to show off her star status and telling me, ‘Who do you think you are?’”
At one point, the altercation became so heated that Mamta’s secretary allegedly threatened Ameesha physically, only to be stopped by Ameesha’s mother, who intervened to protect her daughter. She yelled “‘Don’t you dare to touch my daughter.’”
