Story

In the Ramayana, Agastya Muni was not afraid of Ravana’s demons and was living in the south by building an ashram. Shri Ram was entering the ashram of Agastya Muni during his exile. Agastya Muni’s disciple Sutikshna was also accompanying Shri Ram.

Sutikshna said to his guru Agastya Muni, ‘Shri Ram has come.’

On hearing this, Agastya Muni immediately ran in front of Shri Ram. Agastya Muni had tears in her eyes on seeing Shri Ram. At that time Shri Ram and Lakshmana bowed at the feet of Agastya Muni. Agastya Muni lifted both the brothers and embraced them, after which Agastya ji made them sit on a high seat and worshiped them.

Seeing this the other sages present in the ashram were shocked and started thinking that first both the brothers bowed down at the feet of the sage, then the sage worshiped him by sitting on a high seat. After this Shri Ram said to Agastya Muni, ‘I want to tell you something.’

After listening to Shri Ram, everyone sits down and starts looking at him. After this Shriram started speaking.

Everyone was surprised by this incident in the ashram, because the people present there did not understand who was giving respect to whom. Sometimes Agastya Muni pays respect to Rama and sometimes Ram pays respect to Agastya Muni. When Rama says something, he speaks with great humility.

Lessons

This incident gives a message that if we give respect to others, then we will also get respect. Shri Ram wants to tell that Agastya Muni is a sage and he should be respected. Agastya Muni is telling that Ram is God, but at this time he has brought a human incarnation, so I will bow to his divinity. This is the specialty of older people that they give a lot of respect to each other. If we get a big position, wealth and prestige, then we should not be arrogant. Don’t insult others. If we give respect to everyone, then we will automatically start being respected.
