‘What’s the Reason’: Confusion Inside IndiGo Flight As Pawan Khera Deplaned | Watch

There was confusion among Congress leaders aboard an Indigo flight after their colleague Pawan Khera landed at the Delhi airport on Thursday morning. Congress leader Khera was taken off by the police in a plane to Raipur, where he was going to attend the party’s general convention.

In a video of the incident going viral on social media, confused Congress leaders can be seen questioning airline officials as to why their colleague was offloaded from the flight despite her documents and boarding pass.

“What is the reason?” Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal can be heard questioning an airline official standing at the entrance of the aircraft.

Venugopal later said, “Had there been a valid reason, there would have been no problem.”

“He is our leader. He is general secretary, MP. How can you do this after giving him a boarding pass? He is a national spokesperson, why is Indigo becoming a party?” said another party leader inside the aircraft.

Khera, who has been booked for his alleged remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Assam, was asked to be taken off the plane by the Delhi Police.

Congress leaders including Venugopal, Randeep Surjewala and Supriya Shrinate, among others who accompanied him to Raipur, sat on a protest and resisted attempts to take him away without an arrest warrant.

Senior Delhi Police officers later handed him a document from the Assam Police, seeking his help in arresting Kheda.

“I don’t know why I am being stopped. We’ll see (why they’re taking me). It’s a long fight and I’m ready to fight.”

Congress leader Randeep Surjewala along with Kheda went to a police station at the airport where there was heavy deployment of CISF.

A case has been registered against Kheda at Assam’s Haflong police station under various sections of the IPC for his alleged remarks against the Prime Minister.

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate, who was also on the flight, said on Twitter, “We are all on our way to Raipur on @IndiGo6E flight 6E 204 and suddenly my colleague @Pawankhera has been asked to offload.”

“How arbitrary is this? Is there a rule of law? On what basis and on whose orders is this being done?” he added.

Later, the Congress approached the Supreme Court requesting an urgent hearing of the matter, the apex court took up the matter at 3 pm, within an hour of Singhvi mentioning the matter for urgent listing, and ordered that Kheda Be released on interim bail till 28 February. ,

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said Kheda would be released on interim bail when he is produced before a competent magistrate in Delhi.

The bench, also comprising Justices MR Shah and PS Narasimha, said, “The above order shall remain in force till Tuesday (February 28)” and listed the matter for February 27.

The apex court issued notices to the states of Assam and Uttar Pradesh seeking their response on Kheda’s plea seeking registration of multiple FIRs against him in Assam, Lucknow and Varanasi for his alleged remarks against the prime minister.

Senior advocate AM Singhvi, appearing for Khera, said the Congress leader had apologized for his remarks on the Prime Minister the same day and the offenses alleged against him in these FIRs do not require arrest.

He said the choice of words used and the sections invoked against them did not match the offenses alleged.

Singhvi said, ‘It will directly affect the freedom of expression.’

Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, appearing for the Assam Police, played an audio-video clip of the alleged remarks in open court and said Kheda cannot use such “derogatory words” against the country’s democratically elected prime minister.

Bhati told the court that Kheda has been arrested and will be produced before the competent magistrate during the day for transit remand.
