Sidhu, who arrived in Amritsar on Tuesday, was given a rousing welcome on his arrival in Amritsar after becoming the PPCC chief. Sidhu visited Bhagat Singh’s native village Khatkar Kalan to pay tribute to the freedom fighter at his memorial yesterday.

In Nawanshahr, he was accompanied by MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra, one of the four working presidents appointed by the Congress, Rajkumar Verka, Angad Saini, Sukhpal Bhullar, Inderbir Singh Bolaria and Gurpreet Singh GP. Heavy police force was deployed in the area and barricades were put up.

Party leaders who welcomed Sidhu included MLAs Inderbir Singh Baloria, Rajkumar Verka, Sunil Dutti, Sukhwinder Singh Daini and leader Sukhjinder Raj Singh Lali. Sidhu’s supporters and party workers were dancing to the beat of the dhol.

Before leaving for his residence, Sidhu had gone to the hospital for treatment of an injury to his right toe. His toe nail was broken in Khatkar Kalan of Nawanshahr. He was discharged after dressing.

Thereafter, he went to the residence of Jakhar, who expressed confidence that the Amritsar East MLA would live up to the expectations of the people of Punjab. Jakhar said the party would fight the upcoming elections with a united face.

Sidhu had gone to meet minister Razia Sultana along with some party MLAs from Jakhar’s residence. Sidhu and several party MLAs later gathered at the residence of Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa.

After this he went to his residence to seek the blessings of former Punjab CM Rajinder Kaur Bhattal. Sidhu had been meeting party leaders for the past few days even before becoming the PPCC chief.
